Hotel Alghero
Alghero is
about 30km away from Sassari, and less than 20km from Porto Torres and is
connected to the peninsula through the Alghero Fertilia Airport nearby, the
third most important airport in Sardinia. Throughout the city of Alghero there
are 114 different accommodation facilities including hotels, 2 of which are
five stars, 10 are four stars and 14 are three stars, as well as numerous
apartment complexes, farmhouses, B&Bs, villas and holiday rentals that
complete the offer.
The city
overlooks the gulf of its namesake, and is situated in the north-western part
of the island. A rich and bustling city, especially in summer when it is
highlighted by the social life and tourism. Its historic centre speaks Catalan,
still today, after four centuries of Spanish domination. Starting from the
central Piazza Porta Torre, from the top of which you can see all of the old
village, you can continue to the Via Sassari and from there to the tower of
Saint Jouame, situated at the end of the avenue on the Columbano waterfront.
The
liveliest part of the city is that of Piazza Sulis, surrounded by numerous bars
and restaurants which, in the evening, become a meeting place for an aperitif.
From there you can reach the 23m high Torre dello Sperone, which in past
centuries was the perimeter?s strong point that defended the city from enemy
attacks. The waterfront starts at this square, which then going south leads to
Bosa, while going west or north the city stretches to the Marco Polo bastions
and the Colombo waterfront.
The city is
practically an old Catalan village full of colour and charm, where the smell of
the sea is the essence of life, the coral is its most concrete and real
testament, and with this precious sea jewel Alghero produces a very high
commercial value in addition to the tourism.
Via Carlo
Alberto is famous for its antique shops, jewellers and boutiques, and at the
end of it the splendid church of San Francesco emerges, whose bell tower stands
out and gives it a special charm, perhaps due to the sandstone.
Alghero is
accessible by sea through the commercial port of Porto Torres, which is a
little less than 40km away, and connects to Barcelona, Marseilles and Genoa.
By air it is accessible via the international
Alghero-Fertilia Airport, a little less than 10km away, and it in turn has
connections to Sardinia?s main cities.
